#11 Cured Asthma with Antibiotics

 

At the age of 14, Ismael Navarro Jr. developed asthma symptoms literally overnight. With the help of traditional asthma-inhaler medication, Ismael’s symptoms subsided significantly until the age of 25, when they came back in full force. Tired of spending hundreds of dollars on Advair every month — and even more tired of the relentless toll asthma was taking on his body — Ismael sought out a doctor who would prescribe him antibiotics in the hope that he could cure his asthma in a manner in which many others had in the past. Today Ismael lives without any asthma symptoms.

Excerpt from Ismael’s story:

Do you consider yourself cured?

I don’t have asthmatic symptoms. I don’t feel like I have it anymore. My whole life they told me there was not a cure, but I don’t have any symptoms now. I will leave it to you to decide.

Do you feel comfortable leaving the house without your inhaler?

Oh, yeah. I don’t carry it at all. I don’t have it with me now. I have one at my house. To give you an idea, I work about 50 miles from my house. If I had an attack, I would have to drive 50 miles. I am that confident that I am not going to have an asthma attack.

Curing asthma gave me a different perspective on medicine and doctors. There are alternatives to dealing with disease. Whether it is asthma or anything else, the doctors are only going to tell you what they know and what they have been told to say, and it is up to the person to look for alternatives. You need to take the initiative. If whatever the doctor is giving you is not working, there are alternatives. Take that step and see what is out there. You never know until you try. Give it a shot and see if it works. Doing so was probably the best decision I ever made.
