Is something amiss in your life and you just can’t figure out what it is? Maybe it is because the Feng Shui of your house is all wonky and you are unintentionally inflicting yourself with bad energy. Read these 6 Feng Shui tips to learn more.
1. Absolutely No Dead Plants
Years back, I visited a friend to console her after she reluctantly deciding to close her business. As I approached her front steps, I saw each stair lined with dead potted plants.
Such a sight causes Feng Shui-y people substantial consternation.
Many objects in the practice of Feng Shui bring positive energy to different aspects of life when thoughtfully placed in select areas of a room and home. Other objects, such as dead plants, symbolizing death and decay (not to mention shit horticulture skills) are not acceptable in any room,in or near any home.
In my girlfriend’s case the dead plants were near her front door – the entrance of a home being one of the most important in Feng Shui AND the Career area in the practice of it.
(Don’t tell anyone but I am pretty sure her gardening skills not only downed her business but may just have been the cause of the entire global economic collapse.)
My girlfriend’s green thumb was bad news for the Career area of her home and the Feng Shui of her life but honestly given the eight designated Feng Shui areas of a home: 1) Money 2) Fame & Reputation, 3) Love & Marriage, 4) Creativity & Children, 5) Skills & Knowledge, 6) Helpful People & Travel 7) Health and 8) Family – which of those would you rather stick these potted symbols of death and decay??
Case closed? No dead plants please. My nervous system simply can’t take it.
2. No Clutter
As my favorite feng shui book, Move Your Stuff Change Your Life will tell you, when you use feng shui to shift your chi (or energy) you can better your life. Critical to getting your Chi headed in the right direction is ensuring it doesn’t get tangled up in your dust, dirt, clutter and crap.
In short, the 43 t-shirts you have stashed in your closet for when you paint (you hate painting) and your pile of notes from freshman Bio you might review “one day” are killing, or at least seriously bumming out, your Chi.
And we want cheerful Chi!
Start with the least daunting corner, or even drawer, of your house and go through every single last piece of crap you have. Classify everything in one of two categories:
- I love this dearly or I use it yearly – so I will keep it
- I do not love this dearly or use it yearly, so I will recycle it, donate it or trash it
And watch your Chi and your life transform.
p.s. If you live in the Denver metro area and are looking to hire someone to help you declutter – it sounds insane, but I love doing it. I have yet to have a customer who is not completely satisfied with going from a house (room or garage) of chaos to a house of tranquility and organization. Interested? Contact me.
3. No Reminders of Anything You Want to Forget
Many things from the past need to stay there. If you still have memories, momentos, photos or any other reminders of people, places or events you would prefer not to remember – you need to get rid of them immediately. Bad memories from the past are bad energy and bad energy is bad feng shui.
4. Nothing Broken or Damaged
Back to feng shui symbolism – in looking at the nine areas of your life and the feng shui practice (career, helpful people and travel, children and creativity, love and marriage and so on…) which of these areas would you like to place objects or symbols that are broken or damaged. Which of these nine areas would you like to attract broken and damaged energy?
Seems it is time to get out the super glue or give your damaged goods the heave ho, no?
5. Toilet Seat Lids Down – No Exceptions.
When the toilet seat is not down, do you know where all the energy of your home is going? Right down the shitter.
6. Hire Someone to Help
If you live in the Denver metro area and are looking to hire someone to help you declutter and/or Feng Shui your home, bedroom or any part of your house – I would love to help! I have yet to have a customer who is not completely satisfied with going from a house (room or garage) of chaos to a house of tranquility, organization and good energy. Interested? Contact me.
