My hometown is loteacd near the Walter Read Army Medical Center, the primary army hospital for injured troops. Every time an injured troop needs surgery, the army will ship them back to the states and hospitalize them at Walter Reed. This includes all injuries, including brain damage, burns, fractured bones, and more commonly, amputations. The sight of amputated soldiers is far too common in my town. Once the soldiers have recovered enough in Walter Reed, there families pay them a visit. During these visits, the soldiers usually visit the local shops, movie theaters and other venues, just to get there mind off their problems. It is there, in the downtown area, where I see these soldiers all the time. Most are amputees and are being pushed around in a wheel chair by a girlfriend or family member. The soldiers are obviously from outside the city, so they stand out even more. The utter grief and confusion creates a facial characteristic it seems many of them cannot change. Most are young men with their heads still shaven. Seeing these soldiers so frequently is one of the main contributing factos towards my negative attitude towards war, especially the ones the United States is in today. The troops are able bodied men, fighting for a cause many of them don t even understand. Then they return to the U.S, still in shock from battle, and they have no plan. They have no idea what to do next, where they will work, whether their family will still stick with them. It s awful, and it happens all the time. While the obvious physical damage will be permanent with the injured troops, the psychological and emotional stress will also be permanent, even among those troops that were not physically harmed during wartime. Blackouts are very common among troops, and they are becoming more frequent as more army men return home. Blackouts are moments of complete loss of control in which the troop reenacts war experiences. This can mean storming houses, fighting the enemy, screaming, etc., any type of event in war, recreated in the troops mind, and reenacted in real life. For example, troops who have developed anger issues have experienced fits of rage in which they do not remember. This type of emotional trauma is obviously more frequent than actually realized. Many troops don t even recognize the disorder, and if left untreated, can cause serious damage to their lives. The judicial system barely recognizes post traumatic stress disorder in court, especially in violent crimes. The issue is severe, and the consequences of leaving it unaddressed have yet to prove themselves. Most soldiers are very young, and they are throwing their lives away when they suffer from these types of traumas.

There is no-one that can tell you how your MS will behave in the futrue, but a rule of thumb is that the first 5 years after your first attack will be an indicator of how the MS will affect you. Nothing is written in stone, though, aggressive MS can suddenly turn dormant and mild MS can suddenly become aggressive. The way I see it, we, who are diagnosed with remitting-relapsing MS, live with a sword over our head. We don't know IF it's going to fall and if it falls, we don't know how severe the damage will be, but then again, there are no guarantees in life, and there is no point worrying about the what ifs .My advice to you is to read up as much as you can about MS. It helped me immensely after I was first diagnosed, because the average person's knowledge about MS is usually based on worst case scenarios. These are what the media focus on, these are the most visible when you walk down the street. For your own sake, I feel it is important to come to terms with the worst case scenario, but it is equally important to realise that many of the MS statistics include old data that were harvested before the disease modifying drugs were developed. Today MS is not considered to have any effect on the sufferer's lifespan, and many of people with MS lead normal or near normal lives, just 15% of all MS sufferers end up in wheel-chairs.Talk to your neurologist, don't be afraid to ask questions, advice, anything at all. Many problems can be addressed with medicine, and if you have relapsing-remitting MS, the earlier you start treatment, the better. I started on Avonex right after I got my diagnosis and both the neurologist I've had, have independently of each other said that the early treatment is most likely the main reason why I'm doing this well.MS is not a death-sentence and it does not necessarily mean that your life will change significantly either. The most important part is to focus on what you can do. All depending on your symptoms, you might still be able to teach for many years to come.Take your time, try to relax and digest the diagnosis, do what feels right for you and try not to be too affected by well-meaning friends and family, if yours are anything like mine, they will be crying, treating you as if you have one foot in the grave, finding various articles on alternative treatments, and telling you about all the other MS cases they've heard of. Natural reactions, but not always helpful to the newly diagnosed. You might want to look into joining a MS group. I didn't do so myself when I was first diagnosed, but I know it has helped many. All the best to you. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just need to talk. Was this answer helpful?

Restaurants will often not care much about health code, so that might be a reoasn why you're getting it so much. Could also be ulcers. As far as a vegan/vegetarian diet goes, you're absolutely correct. With plant foods, it's much easier to see and smell when a food is bad. Also, plants don't carry most of those stomach germs like gastroenteritis, E. Coli, and Salmonella. That only happens when the tomato farm is downstream from the cow farm.

Sounds a good write up My wife and I are considering the far east for a hoaildy next year. We initally considered China, but most places over there look interesting anyway. We also prefer it off the tourist route, tracks etc.. not our scene really, we prefer to see the wild and natural side of a particular coumtry. All points East sounds right up our street.. All the best on future trips!!!!!!

you cannot have just one visa to visit every where in the world. Whether you need a visa for any pitaaculrr country depends upon your nationality those countries that do require a visa for you will expect you to apply personnally through one of their embassies (and pay quite a lot for some countries) you can apply through any embassy of the country you wish to visit so that you have the visa when you try to cross their border. the type of visa required would depend a lot on what you intended to do in the country like just travel or work or be a student.

Comment on A Prostitute Working in Amsterdam’s Prostitution Information Center by Steven

I was walking through the main train station in Amsterdam and I naively smiled at a woman who I think was a prostitute. I was just being friendly but she kept looking at me as if she expected something, as if some secret deal was about to be done. When I got close, I saw in her eyes and I'll never forget what her eyes looked like. There was such a hopeless, dead look in her eyes. It was striking. I thought that her soul, or her mind, must be in a profoundly bad state.

A while later, I was watching a television programme about prostitution in Prague and the groups of British men who go there. A man was interviewed who said he and his friends went into a brothel and saw a line up of prostitutes. His friends didn't care and just wanted to have sex but he was more sensitive I guess. He described the look in their eyes as soulless and I knew he saw the same thing as me. They interviewed some prostitutes and they all seemed desperate and unhappy.

I have always thought since then that prostitution must be psychologically bad for people. Maybe that is only when woman don't really want to do it but feel they have no choice?

In your experience, do you think prostitution has any bad effects on the prostitute, psychologically? Does it affect your sense of self-worth? Don't you feel like you are being used? Doesn't it make you feel like an object instead of a person whose well being and wishes matter? That is how I imagine it would be. Its such a private, intimate thing to sell; it somehow doesn't seem like it would be good for somebody to do over and over. But maybe I am wrong...

I would be interested to hear form you on this. thanks

Dear Linda,
I do recall reading in the early days of a patient that took the naltrexone and when she stopped it (believing she didn't have the disease anymore) would have and exacerbation. I personally took it for 10 years and only stopped after 7+ years of no symptoms. I seriously changed my diet and of course, my yoga practice. I find the yoga allows me the insight into my body with the mind/body connection that I know whenever something is starting to manifest. I can usually nip a cold or anything else before it gets out of hand. Good luck to you and wishing you perfect health.
